In a significant development for both regional manufacturing and international trade, Sri Lanka's prominent Hirdaramani Group is strategically extending its operational presence in Egypt. This expansion is designed to position Egypt as a central manufacturing and export hub, catering to a diverse array of global markets. The initiative underscores a shared vision between the Hirdaramani Group and Egyptian authorities to foster economic growth and integrate the nation more deeply into global supply chains.

The collaborative effort was recently solidified during a high-level meeting between Sid Hirdaramani, a director of the Hirdaramani Group, and Dr. Mohamed Awad, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI). This discussion highlighted the mutual benefits of such an endeavor, particularly Egypt’s ongoing commitment to drawing in foreign direct investment, with a strong emphasis on industries geared towards export. The Hirdaramani Group explicitly articulated its intention to leverage what it perceives as Egypt's distinct competitive advantages, transforming the country into a pivotal center for production and international distribution.

The Hirdaramani Group, a global player with an impressive portfolio, oversees more than 30 factories spread across various countries, employing a substantial workforce exceeding 55,000 individuals. Their annual revenue generation stands at approximately $1.2 billion, with a monthly garment production capacity ranging from 12 million to 18.4 million units, all destined for international markets. This scale of operation underscores the potential impact of their increased presence in Egypt on the local economy and its export capabilities.

During their dialogue, Dr. Awad from GAFI reiterated the government’s robust support for facilitating the Hirdaramani Group's expansion initiatives. He emphasized the critical importance of attracting international manufacturers as a cornerstone of Egypt's broader strategy to amplify its export base and cultivate deeper local industrial competencies. Dr. Awad elaborated that such foreign investments are instrumental in furthering Egypt’s integration into international supply networks and stimulating the growth of indigenous supplier industries, enabling them to meet rigorous global standards.

Sid Hirdaramani acknowledged and praised the significant strides Egypt has made in cultivating an attractive investment climate. He articulated the Group’s perspective of Egypt as a crucial strategic platform for augmenting its manufacturing footprint and extending its global export reach. This commitment signals a long-term vision for sustained investment and operational growth within the region.

Both parties have committed to maintaining close and continuous coordination to identify and capitalize on future investment prospects that will support the Hirdaramani Group's continued growth in Egypt. This ongoing collaboration is poised to align with national objectives of boosting foreign direct investment, creating new employment opportunities, and strengthening Egyptian exports through the attraction of high value-added industries. This strategic alliance represents a significant step towards reinforcing Egypt's position as a regional manufacturing and export powerhouse.
