Standard Chartered Predicts Chainlink to Reach $200 by 2030, Driven by $4 Trillion Tokenization Growth

Standard Chartered has initiated coverage of Chainlink, projecting a remarkable surge to $200 by 2030, which would represent an approximate 25-fold increase from its current trading price. This optimistic outlook anticipates Chainlink outperforming both Bitcoin and Ethereum in the coming years. Geoff Kendrick, the bank's global head of digital assets research, detailed a progressive price trajectory for Chainlink, aiming for $13 by the end of this year, followed by $41, $82, and $133 before hitting the $200 mark. Concurrently, Kendrick foresees Bitcoin reaching $500,000 and Ethereum touching $40,000 by the close of 2030.

The bank's bullish forecast hinges on the exponential growth of tokenized assets and decentralized finance (DeFi). Kendrick expects the value of on-chain tokenized assets to skyrocket from $340 billion to $4 trillion by 2028, a nearly 12-fold expansion. Similarly, assets deployed in DeFi are predicted to grow 37-fold, reaching $2.7 trillion by 2030. Given Chainlink's role in providing data and facilitating asset transfers across different blockchains, its fees are expected to increase 25 times over this period, with the token's price mirroring this rise. Chainlink's established market leadership further solidifies this projection, with over $110 billion in total value secured, accounting for roughly 70% of oracle-dependent value in global DeFi and more than 80% on the Ethereum network, with Aave V3 alone contributing 44% to this secured value.

Chainlink's expanding client base, including prominent institutions like Swift, DTCC, Euroclear, JP Morgan, Mastercard, UBS, Fidelity, and S&P Global, underscores its growing integration into traditional finance. These off-chain entities are expected to contribute an increasing share of Chainlink's fee revenue, driven by the data-intensive requirements of tokenized funds and bonds. Despite some competition in interoperability from platforms like LayerZero, Chainlink's CCIP has seen substantial growth, attracting over $7 billion in token value since April, with quarterly volume surging 353% year-on-year to $4.9 billion in the second quarter. While other DeFi assets like Uniswap and Aave have seen significant reactions to Kendrick's previous forecasts, Chainlink's response has been more subdued, though its long-term potential remains strong. However, potential risks such as slower-than-anticipated institutional tokenization, failed pilot programs, increased competition, and technical setbacks could impact these projections.

The digital asset space is ripe with innovation and opportunities, and Chainlink's pivotal role in connecting real-world data with blockchain technology positions it for continued expansion and success. As the world moves towards a more tokenized future, the infrastructure provided by Chainlink will be indispensable, driving efficiency and transparency across various sectors. The consistent development and adoption of decentralized solutions will not only reshape financial markets but also foster a more interconnected and equitable global economy.
