Archer Aviation, a company at the forefront of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) technology, is currently navigating a period of significant financial risk and ambitious development. Despite a substantial decline in its stock value over the past year, market analysts and internal projections suggest a promising future, with the possibility of its shares reaching $10 by mid-2027. This potential turnaround is underpinned by key strategic developments, including progress in FAA certification, notable partnerships, and anticipated commercial and defense sector revenues.

Archer Aviation's current market position reveals a company with high ambitions but also considerable financial hurdles. The developer of the Midnight eVTOL aircraft, which is set to be the Official Air Taxi Provider for the LA28 Olympic Games, has made strides in FAA Type Certification, successfully completing Phase 3. Additionally, strategic collaborations with major tech entities like NVIDIA and Palantir, along with defense contractor Anduril, underscore its potential for diversification into defense revenue streams and advanced AI integration.

However, the financial performance of Archer Aviation reflects the challenges inherent in a pre-revenue venture. The company reported a net loss of $217.7 million in Q1 2026, significantly higher than the previous year, with research and development expenses reaching $171.7 million. Although liquidity stands at $1.8 billion, there was a sequential cash decline of $188.8 million. This cash burn, coupled with a 42.96% drop in stock value over the last year, explains why shares are currently trading below $6.

Despite these financial challenges, Wall Street analysts maintain a positive outlook, with a consensus target price of $10.50, suggesting an 87.84% upside. Our internal models are even more optimistic, projecting a base case of $11.64 by mid-2027, with a bull case reaching $14.60. This optimism is fueled by several upcoming catalysts: the expected launch of commercial air taxi services in US cities, phased government awards, and the deployment of AI solutions later this year. The company's partnership with Anduril for autonomous VTOL technology and Palantir's SMART AI finalist status further strengthen its defense sector prospects. Moreover, the Department of Transportation's $20 billion air traffic control modernization program could provide a significant infrastructure boost. Institutional confidence is also evident, with State Street disclosing a 6.4% passive stake.

The path to Archer Aviation reaching the $10 mark by mid-2027 hinges on several critical factors aligning favorably. These include the timely completion of FAA Type Certification, a successful commercial launch of its air taxi services in the LA area, and the materialization of at least one significant defense contract. While insider selling in May raised some concerns, the overall bullish sentiment from options traders and the company's strategic advancements suggest a robust potential for recovery and growth, providing a clear roadmap for Archer Aviation to achieve its target valuation.
