Netflix Realigns Animation and Family Film Leadership Roles

In a strategic reorganization highlighting the increasing significance of animated content, Netflix has restructured key leadership positions within its film department, affecting two senior executives.

Hannah Minghella, who previously managed both feature animation and live-action family films, will now dedicate her expertise solely to animation. As the newly appointed head of Netflix Animation Studios, she will be responsible for a vast array of projects, three animation facilities, and a team of over a thousand professionals spread across multiple continents.

Meanwhile, Kira Goldberg, who serves as Vice President of Film, will take charge of live-action family films. Her expanded role builds upon her current responsibilities, which include overseeing successful genres such as thrillers (notably the recent hit Apex), dramas, and faith-based narratives. Both executives continue to be integral members of the leadership team assembled by Netflix's Chairman of Film, Dan Lin.

Animation has proven to be a highly successful sector for the streaming service, with productions like KPop Demon Hunters setting records by appearing on its Global Top 10 list for an impressive 52 weeks, and Swapped, featuring voice talent from Michael B. Jordan, achieving considerable popularity. The upcoming animated slate is robust, including titles such as Steps, Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn, The Buried Giant, a sequel to The Mitchells vs. the Machines, and In Waves, a film acquired from Cannes. A new animated adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is also slated as a major release for Netflix in 2027. Minghella's mandate will extend beyond content creation to developing animated franchises across various other divisions, including live events and consumer products. She will also continue to guide her ongoing live-action projects, such as Greta Gerwig’s Narnia and Eloise, starring Ryan Reynolds. Goldberg has already demonstrated her proficiency in the family entertainment domain, notably with the surprise success of Remarkably Bright Creatures, a Sissy Spacek film based on Shelby Van Pelt's novel, and The Life List, featuring Sofia Carson. Minghella joined Netflix in 2024 from Bad Robot, while Goldberg started at the company in 2018 after her tenure at 20th Century Fox.

The strategic appointments of Hannah Minghella and Kira Goldberg to lead crucial film divisions at Netflix highlight the company's forward-thinking approach to content development. By entrusting these seasoned executives with expanded roles, Netflix is poised to foster innovation and creativity, ensuring a vibrant future for both animated and live-action storytelling. This commitment to nurturing diverse talent and strategic investment in compelling narratives not only enhances viewer experience but also solidifies Netflix's position as a global leader in entertainment.
