A new trailer unveils Jenna Ortega in the role of a sentient robot, radiating optimism in Taika Waititi's upcoming cinematic interpretation of "Klara and the Sun."

This film adaptation, featuring Ortega and Amy Adams, is directed by Taika Waititi and is slated for theatrical release by Sony Pictures on October 23. Waititi, in collaboration with Dahvi Waller, penned the screenplay, bringing to life Kazuo Ishiguro's acclaimed 2021 dystopian science fiction novel. Ortega portrays Klara, an artificial friend powered by solar energy, designed to enhance human existence. The ensemble cast also includes Mia Tharia, Steve Buscemi, and Natasha Lyonne, who contribute to the depth of this intriguing narrative.

In the recently released preview, Klara's earnest desire for companionship is palpable as she utters, "Glorious sun, please let today be my day. Let me find a friend." This sentiment is met with a pragmatic caution from Adams' character, who warns Klara, "Consider this a trial period. You're still under warranty, and I won't hesitate for a second to send you back." Waititi, known for his recent work on "Next Goal Wins," is also a producer on "Klara and the Sun," alongside David Heyman, Jeffrey Clifford, Rosie Alison, and Garrett Basch. TriStar Pictures president Nicole Brown highlighted the film's core message at CinemaCon in April, describing it as "a hopeful story about friendship and connection at a time when technology makes us feel so alone." Beyond "Klara and the Sun," Ortega is set to appear in "The Gallerist" and J.J. Abrams' "The Great Beyond," and will reprise her role in the third season of "Wednesday." Adams' recent projects include "Nightbitch" and "Disenchanted," with upcoming roles in "At the Sea" and "Star Wars: Starfighter," where she co-stars with Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, and Aaron Pierre.

This narrative explores profound questions about artificial intelligence, human connection, and the essence of friendship. It invites us to consider the evolving landscape of relationships in a technologically advanced world, reminding us that the search for understanding and companionship remains a universal and deeply resonant human (or humanoid) endeavor.
