The Whats Funny Comedy Festival, established by Knowledge Beckom and Lil Rel Howery, known for his roles in "Get Out" and "Rel," is dedicated to showcasing comedic talents from Black and Brown communities, aspiring to cement Chicago's reputation as a prime hub for comedic discovery. The festival's third annual event will unfold from September 19-26, spanning various venues across Chicago, including prominent spots like Comedy Bar and Laugh Factory. More than 50 comedians from diverse cities are slated to perform, featuring acts such as Cousin Tiera, Correy Bell, and Rich Thomas.

A highlight of the festival will be the inaugural Whats Funny Today Show Chicago Comedy Legends ceremony on September 21, where Bellamy will be presented with his Icon Award. This event will also pay tribute to 15 Chicago-based comedians who have significantly shaped the city's comedic landscape. The celebration will culminate with a live recording of the "Whats Funny Today Show" podcast, featuring Bellamy and other special guests. Additionally, Lil Rel Howery will film his upcoming stand-up special on September 20, following the success of his previous special "Rel Talk," recorded during the festival's first year. Howery will also conduct a master class, offering insights into his journey in stand-up, television, and film. According to Beckom, the festival's co-founder and executive director, the event aims to honor Black comedy's rich heritage while fostering opportunities for new comedians to grow and establish their careers, promising that the 2026 edition will be the most significant and impactful yet.
