Forging a New Era in Live Entertainment: Mari's Bold Vision

Mari's Strategic Acquisition of ATG Entertainment

Ari Emanuel's recently launched enterprise, Mari, specializing in global events and experiences, has finalized an agreement to purchase ATG Entertainment, a major theater group headquartered in the United Kingdom. The acquisition is being made from Providence Equity Partners, marking a significant transaction in the entertainment industry.

ATG Entertainment's Expansive Global Footprint

ATG Entertainment boasts an impressive portfolio of 70 venues spanning the UK, US, Germany, and Spain. This includes 10 theaters in London's renowned West End and seven on Broadway in New York. Beyond venue operations, ATG's business encompasses production and ticketing services. Its theaters have been home to celebrated productions such as 'Wicked,' 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,' and 'The Lion King,' drawing over 18 million theatergoers annually.

The Financial Landscape of the Deal

While specific financial figures of the transaction have not been publicly disclosed, a report from The Wall Street Journal indicates that the acquisition is valued at an estimated $6 billion. The completion of this deal is contingent upon obtaining regulatory approvals, and until then, both companies will maintain their independent operations.

Ari Emanuel's Perspective on Live Entertainment

In a released statement, Ari Emanuel expressed his long-standing connection to the entertainment industry, having started his career in theater. He emphasized the enduring power of live events, noting that they directly connect talent with audiences. Emanuel praised ATG for establishing a world-class theater business around this unique experience, characterizing the acquisition as a long-term commitment to the evolution of live entertainment.

ATG Entertainment's Leadership on the Acquisition

Melanie Smith, the global CEO of ATG Entertainment, conveyed her positive outlook on the acquisition. She highlighted Mari's deep understanding of live entertainment and its appreciation for ATG's core values: its venues, its dedicated team, and the strong relationships cultivated with producers, artists, and audiences. Smith believes Mari is the ideal partner for ATG's next chapter and extended gratitude to Providence for their unwavering support over the past 13 years.

Mari's Vision for ATG's Future and Current Portfolio

Mari's existing portfolio includes a diverse range of ventures such as Frieze, Barrett-Jackson, the Miami Open, the Mutua Madrid Open, Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, and the Hampton Court Palace and Blenheim Palace Festivals. Following the approval of the ATG deal, Mari intends to act as a long-term steward of ATG's theaters. This involves investing in their preservation and modernization, improving the audience experience, and supporting new productions, all to the benefit of theatergoers and producers. The press release also stated that ATG will continue to operate under its current brand and leadership, maintaining its commitment to creative independence.
