Galiano Gold recently disclosed its second-quarter performance, revealing significant achievements in gold production and financial stability, alongside strategic investments aimed at future growth. The company successfully produced 34,391 ounces of gold during the quarter, contributing to a first-half total exceeding 69,000 ounces, aligning with its ambitious full-year guidance. This robust output was primarily supported by the Abore pit, which supplied a substantial portion of the mill feed. Concurrently, Galiano made considerable financial commitments, investing $22.1 million in pre-stripping activities at Nkran, signaling a long-term vision for the mine's development. Despite a legal challenge leading to a restriction of $26 million in cash, the company maintained a debt-free status, underscoring its solid financial health. Looking ahead, Galiano has augmented its exploration budget for 2026 to $25 million, focusing on the Esaase and Abore projects to convert resources and extend the operational life of its Asanko Gold Mine.
The company's operational efficacy was further highlighted by its impressive safety record, achieving 456 consecutive incident-free days and approximately 11 million hours without a lost-time injury, demonstrating a strong commitment to workplace safety. Moreover, Galiano reported a revenue of $156.6 million for the quarter, with an adjusted EBITDA of $78.5 million and adjusted earnings per share of $0.09. These figures, coupled with a healthy cash flow from operations, paint a picture of a company on a secure financial footing, poised for continued expansion and value creation for its stakeholders.
Sustained Production and Strategic Operational Focus
Galiano Gold demonstrated impressive operational consistency in the second quarter, achieving a gold production of 34,391 ounces, which, combined with the first quarter's output, brought the total to over 69,000 ounces for the first half of the year. This performance positions the company well within its previously communicated full-year production guidance. The Abore pit played a pivotal role in this success, serving as the main source of mill feed and contributing approximately 77% of the total ore mined during the quarter. The company anticipates even higher grades from Abore in the latter half of the year as mining operations advance into deeper areas, with expectations for Abore to continue supplying around 80% of the mill feed. This strategic focus on Abore is crucial for maintaining a steady production profile.
Alongside the strong production from Abore, Galiano also maintained supplemental mill feed from Esaase. A significant investment of $22.1 million was directed towards pre-stripping at Nkran Cut 3 during the second quarter, bringing the year-to-date total to $35.6 million. This investment is part of a broader strategy to enhance future mining capabilities, with additional equipment being commissioned to support increased mining rates. Although Nkran is not expected to contribute significantly to ore production until late 2028 or 2029, these preparatory activities are vital for its long-term viability. Despite some interruptions due to maintenance on the ball mill gearbox and primary crusher, processing performance remained robust, achieving a 90% metallurgical recovery rate. Management's immediate priorities include completing these repairs, advancing mining at Abore, and delivering the higher-grade ore planned for the second half of the year, all of which are integral to optimizing operational efficiency and meeting production targets.
Robust Financial Health and Ambitious Exploration Initiatives
Galiano Gold showcased a strong financial standing in its second-quarter report, generating $156.6 million in revenue from the sale of over 35,000 ounces of gold. The company reported an average realized gold price of $4,432 per ounce before hedging losses. Adjusted EBITDA stood at an impressive $78.5 million, with adjusted earnings per share at $0.09. These figures reflect a healthy profit margin and operational efficiency. Furthermore, Galiano generated $31.9 million in cash flow from operations, excluding the IFRS presentation of restricted cash. Despite a contractual dispute that led to approximately $26 million in cash becoming restricted by a court order, the company proudly maintained a debt-free balance sheet at the end of the quarter. All-in sustaining costs were reported at $2,473 per ounce for the quarter, and $2,418 per ounce for the first half, demonstrating effective cost management even with elevated diesel prices.
In a clear signal of its commitment to long-term growth, Galiano significantly expanded its 2026 exploration budget from $17 million to $25 million. This increased investment primarily targets drilling programs at Esaase and Abore. The Esaase drilling program, totaling about 32,000 meters, was approximately 50% complete by the end of the second quarter, with the objective of converting inferred resources to indicated resources. Similarly, 4,565 meters were drilled at Abore, progressing its 30,000-meter annual program to 54% completion. The company anticipates completing the remaining Abore drilling by early in the fourth quarter and is actively advancing permitting and planning for a potential underground exploration development at Abore. These exploration efforts are critical for supporting a mineral resources and reserves update in 2027 and are central to Galiano's strategy of increasing production, expanding reserves, and extending the mine life of the Asanko Gold Mine, particularly with an expected stronger cash-flow profile post-hedge program in 2027.
