Following the conclusion of Love Island USA's latest season, a surprising contender has ascended to the pinnacle of streaming viewership in mid-July. Netflix's refreshed rendition of Little House on the Prairie has captivated audiences, securing the top position in Nielsen's comprehensive streaming rankings for the period of July 13-19.

Netflix's 'Little House on the Prairie' Leads Streaming Boom, Dominating Viewership

In a notable shift in the streaming landscape during the week of July 13-19, 2026, the newly launched Netflix adaptation of Little House on the Prairie emerged as the undisputed leader in viewership. The series garnered an impressive 1.18 billion minutes of viewing, marking a substantial 27% surge from its initial week. This significant achievement placed it as the sole original series to exceed the billion-minute mark for that period. Close on its heels was another Netflix offering, The Hawk, a golf-themed comedy featuring Will Ferrell, which recorded a strong debut with 999 million minutes. Meanwhile, Prime Video's action-comedy Ride or Die, starring Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer, also made a commendable entry, attracting 869 million minutes of watch time. Beyond original content, evergreen favorites also saw a resurgence; The Big Bang Theory and SpongeBob SquarePants both achieved record weekly viewership figures, accumulating 1.08 billion and 1.01 billion minutes respectively. HBO's House of the Dragon continued its strong third season run, drawing 995 million minutes. In the movie category, Project Hail Mary maintained its dominance for the third consecutive week with 699 million minutes on Prime Video, while the horror film Obsession debuted on Peacock with 456 million minutes. These figures, exclusively measuring U.S. television set viewership, underscore a dynamic and evolving taste in streaming content.

This week's streaming figures highlight the diverse preferences of audiences, demonstrating that both nostalgic revivals and fresh content can find immense success. The remarkable performance of Little House on the Prairie underscores the enduring appeal of classic stories when reimagined for contemporary platforms. Furthermore, the strong showing of acquired series like The Big Bang Theory and SpongeBob SquarePants indicates that comfort viewing and familiar narratives continue to play a crucial role in viewer engagement. Content creators and platforms should note the potential in balancing innovative new productions with beloved, established franchises to capture a broader audience.
