Momentus Inc. experienced a significant boost in its stock value following the announcement of a new agreement. This contract, signed with the University of Colorado Boulder's esteemed Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP), centers around the utilization of Momentus's advanced Vigoride-9 Orbital Service Vehicle for critical in-orbit operations. This strategic partnership not only strengthens the company's position in the burgeoning commercial space sector but also underscores the increasing demand for sophisticated space services.

Momentus Secures Landmark University Partnership for Vigoride-9 Mission

On a bright Wednesday, June 17, 2026, Momentus Inc. (NASDAQ: MNTS) witnessed its stock climb impressively by 5.91% to reach $9.86, outpacing the broader market, as reported by Benzinga Pro data. This remarkable performance was primarily fueled by the disclosure of a pioneering commercial contract with the University of Colorado Boulder’s Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP). This collaboration involves providing specialized in-orbit services for Momentus’s Vigoride-9 Orbital Service Vehicle, effectively broadening the company's array of commercial space offerings.

Under the terms of this pivotal agreement, Momentus is tasked with hosting and operating LASP's innovative Occultation Wave Limb Sounder (OWLS) mission aboard the Vigoride-9. The OWLS mission, with its anticipated launch in 2027, represents a significant leap forward in atmospheric research. Its instruments are meticulously designed to quantify atmospheric density waves, specifically within the crucial altitude range of 100 to 400 kilometers, employing sophisticated solar occultation techniques.

Researchers involved in the OWLS project are optimistic that the meticulously gathered data will substantially refine existing models related to space weather phenomena, atmospheric drag, and the overall operational environment for satellites traversing low Earth orbit. This advancement promises to enhance the longevity and efficiency of future satellite deployments.

Momentus emphasized that this contract not only reinforces its hosted payload and in-orbit services across governmental, academic, and commercial client bases but also highlights the robust growth of its commercial pipeline. The company successfully launched its Vigoride-7 in March, reporting that the mission continues to fulfill all its objectives with flying colors. Furthermore, the upcoming Vigoride-8, also scheduled for a 2027 launch, is already fully committed to a series of critical NASA missions, demonstrating strong governmental confidence. Notably, the Vigoride-9 still maintains capacity, presenting opportunities for additional customers seeking advanced in-space services.

This latest triumph signals a dynamic period of expansion for Momentus, underscoring the company's commitment to innovation and its increasing influence in the global space industry. As space exploration and commercialization continue to accelerate, such partnerships between private enterprises and academic institutions are becoming increasingly vital for scientific advancement and technological progress.
