The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) is poised to celebrate its landmark 60th anniversary, coinciding with its 80th year of existence, by honoring several luminaries of the cinematic world. This year’s festivities will shine a spotlight on renowned actors Dustin Hoffman, Juliette Binoche, and Jeffrey Wright, alongside the celebrated cinematographer Robert Richardson, each receiving accolades for their significant impact on global film.

Karlovy Vary International Film Festival Celebrates Cinematic Excellence with Star-Studded Honors

In a grand announcement on June 23, 2026, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) revealed its plans to honor a constellation of film stars and creative minds during its 60th anniversary event, scheduled to take place from July 3rd to July 11th. The prestigious Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema will be presented to three distinguished individuals: legendary American actor Dustin Hoffman, celebrated French actress Juliette Binoche, and acclaimed cinematographer Robert Richardson.

Dustin Hoffman, an icon of the silver screen with a career spanning decades, will be celebrated at the festival's opening ceremony. A recipient of two Academy Awards, five Golden Globes, and four BAFTA Awards, Hoffman's profound influence on cinema is undeniable. To mark this special occasion, KVIFF will screen his groundbreaking film, The Graduate, directed by Mike Nichols. This cinematic masterpiece, which earned Nichols an Academy Award and garnered numerous other nominations and awards, will offer attendees a chance to revisit one of Hoffman’s defining early roles.

The festival’s closing ceremony will feature the honoring of Juliette Binoche, a French actress of immense talent, recognized with an Oscar, a César, and four European Film Awards. Her contribution will be celebrated through screenings of her notable works, including Certified Copy (2010), Three Colors: Blue (1993), and her recently directed documentary, In-I in Motion (2025).

Completing the trio of Crystal Globe recipients for artistic contribution is Robert Richardson, a world-renowned cinematographer. With three Academy Awards and seven additional Oscar nominations to his name, Richardson is lauded for his distinctive visual style. His work has significantly shaped films starring prominent actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie. During the festival, Richardson will co-present his documentary portrait, Robert Richardson: The White Devil, alongside director Jana Hojdová.

Adding to the list of distinguished honorees, the President’s Award will be presented to Jeffrey Wright, lauded as one of the most versatile artists of his generation. Wright, who has received Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe awards, in addition to an Oscar nomination, will see his film Basquiat (1996) screened as part of the festival's program. This screening is particularly significant as Wright himself introduced the film at the 32nd Karlovy Vary festival.

These eminent figures join previously announced President’s Award honorees Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jesse Eisenberg, making this year's KVIFF a truly memorable gathering of cinematic talent.

The announcement from KVIFF underscores the festival's enduring commitment to recognizing profound artistic achievements in filmmaking. The celebration of such diverse and influential talents not only highlights their individual careers but also enriches the global film community by bringing their iconic works to a wider audience. This event serves as a powerful reminder of the transformative power of cinema and the artists who bring stories to life on screen.
