Honeywell Aerospace Valued Below Peers Post-Spin-off

Merion Road Capital Management's Q2 2026 investor letter shed light on the recent performance of its portfolios and offered insights into its investment strategy. The firm's large-cap portfolio, which maintains a long-only approach, experienced a 3.9% increase during the second quarter, although its year-to-date performance remained stable. This strategy prioritizes well-established industrial companies that demonstrate robust growth potential and favorable cash flow multiples, consciously avoiding sectors heavily influenced by trending technologies like artificial intelligence. In contrast, the Merion Road Small Cap Fund showed remarkable success, surging by 16.6% in the quarter and exceeding 20% year-to-date, primarily driven by long-held investments and strong contributions from Frequency Electronics, despite some minor setbacks from speculative positions and exchange-traded fund hedges.

The investment firm specifically addressed Honeywell Aerospace Inc. (HONA) in its Q2 2026 communication. HONA, which was separated from Honeywell International in June 2026, specializes in the production and supply of aircraft components, avionics, engines, and various systems. As of August 10, 2026, the company's shares closed at $163.09, valuing it at $51.69 billion, though it experienced a one-month return of -21.41%. Merion Road Capital Management noted that HONA's trading activity has been subdued following the spin-off, largely due to analysts' initial reports highlighting a slower growth trajectory compared to its competitors. However, the firm views management's conservative guidance as a positive indicator, setting a manageable benchmark for future performance and leading to a current valuation that is below its peer group and appealing on an absolute basis, prompting them to augment their holdings.

Merion Road Capital Management's decision to increase its stake in Honeywell Aerospace underscores a belief in the company's long-term value, despite its current market perception. This approach emphasizes looking beyond short-term market reactions and focusing on fundamental strength and strategic positioning. The firm's confidence suggests that patience and a discerning eye for undervalued assets can yield significant returns, especially when a company's leadership sets realistic expectations and its market valuation offers an attractive entry point for investors.
