HBO's acclaimed comedy series, 'Rooster,' featuring Steve Carell in a leading role, has been granted a second season. This announcement comes as the show, which delves into the intricate relationship between a father and his daughter, has captured a substantial audience, establishing itself as HBO's most successful new comedy series in over ten years. The renewal highlights the series' strong reception and its ability to resonate with viewers.

The series, conceived by the creative duo Bill Lawrence, known for his work on 'Shrinking' and 'Ted Lasso,' and Matt Tarses, centers on Carell's character, a successful author, and his daughter, portrayed by Charly Clive, a professor navigating a contentious public divorce. Their evolving bond forms the emotional core of the narrative. The first four episodes of the inaugural season attracted an impressive 5.8 million viewers across the United States, underscoring its popularity and critical appeal.

Scheduled with new episodes premiering every Sunday at 10 p.m., the initial season is set to conclude its 10-episode run on May 10th, available on both HBO and its streaming platform, HBO Max. The show's ensemble cast also includes notable talents such as Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai, who contribute to the series' dynamic and engaging storytelling.

The creative team behind 'Rooster' consists of a robust group of executive producers, including Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, Liza Katzer for Doozer, alongside Tarses, Jonathan Krisel, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Stassen, Anthony King, David Hyman, and Steve Carell himself. The production is a collaboration with Warner Bros. Television, where both Doozer and Tarses hold comprehensive development agreements.

In a statement regarding the renewal, Bill Lawrence expressed his gratitude towards Warner Bros. Television and HBO for their collaborative support. He particularly thanked Casey, Amy, and Channing for providing the opportunity to continue working on the series with Steve Carell and the exceptional cast. Lawrence described the experience as a significant career milestone, humorously adding that it was even more so for his co-creator, Matt Tarses.

Amy Gravitt, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming and Head of Comedy Series, echoed Lawrence's sentiments, stating how gratifying it was to witness the audience's embrace of 'Rooster.' She recalled the initial excitement upon seeing Steve, Bill, and Matt bring the characters to life. Gravitt conveyed anticipation for the upcoming Spring Semester in Ludlow, eager to see what new developments await the show's remarkable comedic ensemble, in partnership with WBTV and Doozer.

Clancy Collins White, President of Creative Affairs at WBD, further commended 'Rooster' as a series characterized by its heartfelt and endearing qualities, deeming its second-season renewal thoroughly deserved. She praised Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses as masters of their craft, highlighting their ability to infuse the narrative with signature warmth and humor through the performances of the incredible cast, led by Steve Carell. White expressed enthusiasm for the ongoing creative partnership with HBO and Doozer, looking forward to future endeavors.

The decision to greenlight a second season for 'Rooster' is a testament to its compelling narrative, strong viewership numbers, and the critical acclaim it has garnered. The series has successfully blended humor with poignant human relationships, creating a resonant viewing experience that has captivated audiences and critics alike. This renewal promises further exploration of the characters' journeys and the unique comedic vision of its creators.
