Docufilm 'Brunello: The Gracious Visionary' Kicks Off Global Tour at Shanghai Film Festival

In June 2026, the highly anticipated docudrama "Brunello: The Gracious Visionary," a work by acclaimed director Giuseppe Tornatore, commenced its international exhibition at the illustrious Shanghai International Film Festival. This comes after successful initial screenings at Cinecittà Studios in Rome and the Lincoln Center in New York. The film meticulously charts the remarkable trajectory of Brunello Cucinelli, celebrated as Italy's "King of Cashmere," from his agrarian origins to his current stature as the creative director and executive chairman of a globally recognized luxury brand. The narrative weaves together compelling interviews, historical footage, and dramatic re-enactments, offering an intimate look into Cucinelli's life and his steadfast commitment to "humanistic capitalism." This philosophy ensures that every garment produced is crafted in Italy, primarily within his home region, and that his employees receive fair compensation and are treated as an extended family. Cucinelli's dedication extends to the meticulous restoration of Solomeo, the Italian village that serves as his company's headquarters. The film features "Love & Gelato" star Saul Nanni portraying a younger Cucinelli, complemented by an original score from Oscar-winning composer Nicola Piovani. Produced by Brunello Cucinelli S.p.A. and MasiFilm, in collaboration with RAI Cinema, the documentary is slated for theatrical release in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Ireland on July 24, with subsequent releases planned for numerous other international markets. Just days before the Shanghai premiere, Cucinelli accepted the Golden Globes Prize for Documentary on behalf of Tornatore at Italy's Taormina Film Festival, held in the stunning ancient Greek amphitheater with the dramatic backdrop of Mount Etna. In a conversation with Variety at Taormina, Cucinelli expressed his strong belief that the film's message of "humanistic capitalism" will deeply resonate with Chinese audiences, emphasizing the long-standing cultural and commercial connections he shares with the region.

This documentary offers a compelling narrative about the intersection of ethical business practices, cultural heritage, and global reach. It highlights the growing importance of transparency and social responsibility in today's consumer landscape, particularly among younger generations who prioritize how products are made and their environmental impact. Cucinelli's philosophy of "humanistic capitalism" provides a thought-provoking model for sustainable growth, demonstrating that commercial success can coexist with profound human values. His belief that his message will resonate with the "Chinese mindset" underscores the universal appeal of integrity, craftsmanship, and a harmonious approach to life and work. The film encourages a deeper appreciation for the stories behind brands and inspires a re-evaluation of what truly constitutes value in a globalized economy.
